The difference
Coursera Plus and a Coursera degree are two different products
What we sell
Coursera Plus
- Courses, Specializations, Professional Certificates, Guided Projects.
- Unlimited access for 12 Months, one payment.
- No admissions process. You start the same day.
- Certificates of completion, issued by Coursera in your name.
- Not accredited, and not a qualification.
What a degree is
An online degree
- A bachelor's or master's awarded by the university itself.
- Priced by the university, typically thousands per year.
- Requires an application, and usually prior qualifications.
- Accredited, and identical in standing to the on-campus award.
- Bought from the university, not from Coursera and not from us.
How it works
Admissions, transfer credit and stacking
Admissions
You apply to the university, not to Coursera. Requirements are the university's own, and several run performance-based admission: you take a small number of courses first and your grades in them stand in for a prior qualification.
Transfer credit
Some universities let specific Coursera courses or Specializations count toward the degree once you enrol. Whether they do, and how much they count, is decided by the university and varies by programme. Confirm it with them before you rely on it.
Trying before committing
Many degree programmes publish open courses from the same faculty. Taking one is the cheapest way to find out whether the teaching suits you, and Coursera Plus covers a great deal of that open material.

To be completely clear
We sell the subscription, not the degree
If a degree is what you want, apply to the university directly. If you want the catalog those universities teach from, across more than 350 institutions and companies, that is what we sell.
